Chapter President 2023-2025

Dr. Kimberly Ward Purvis is excited to return to the office of President of the Princess Anne Alumnae Chapter for the 2021 – 2023 biennium. Dr. Purvis is a Diamond Life member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., having been initiated in 1993 at Elizabeth City State University, Delta Chi chapter. As a member of Princess Anne Alumnae Chapter, Dr. Purvis has held several leadership positions including President, Vice President, Recording Secretary, Corresponding Secretary and Sergeant at Arms. She has chaired numerous committees including scholarship, membership, and fundraising. Dr. Purvis most recently served as the coordinator of Risk Management for her chapter and is a certified level 1 Delta Internal Development trainer. She is the secondary advisor for Upsilon Sigma at the University of MD Eastern Shore. 

 

Although born in Great Neck, NY, Dr. Purvis moved to Williamston, NC at the age of 2 and is a self proclaimed Carolina girl. After graduating from Williamston High School, Dr. Purvis attended Elizabeth City State University where she obtained a B.S. degree in Elementary Education. After acquiring a teaching position, Dr. Purvis relocated to the Eastern Shore of Maryland. She continued her education at Wilmington College (MS School Counseling) and the University of Maryland Eastern Shore, where she obtained a Doctorate in Educational Leadership. Dr. Purvis has a 28 year tenure in Worcester County Public Schools where she has served as a teacher, school counselor, and assistant principal. Dr. Purvis currently serves as the first female principal of Snow Hill High School, a 5 star school on the lower Eastern Shore of Maryland. As a transformational leader, Dr. Purvis holds all constituents to high expectations and creates an environment that is equitable and inclusive for the diverse population that she serves. Following the murder of George Floyd in May 2020, Dr. Purvis established Snow Hill United within the school in an effort to bring a divided community together. 

 

Dr. Purvis describes her life as a living example of how God can transform an ordinary girl into an extraordinary woman. In all aspects of life, Dr. Purvis uses the personal challenges of loss and disappointment to inspire students to overcome obstacles in their lives. Dr. Purvis has taken extensive courses in Christian Counseling through Christian Leadership University. 

 

As a six year breast cancer survivor, Dr. Purvis provides support and guidance to women affected by this dreadful disease. She has shared her journey with several organizations in her community. As a board member for Women Supporting Women, Dr. Purvis wants to ensure that no person feels alone in the fight for life. Dr. Purvis is also a member of the Princess Anne Chapter of Links Inc., Snow Hill Rotary club, and a founding member of the Lower Shore Black Professional Alliance. 

 

Dr. Purvis lives by the motto “Excellence without excuses”. She believes that with the appropriate support, we can all accomplish anything that our heart desires. Dr. Purvis always accepts the call to serve and she has a burning passion for helping young students overcome obstacles to achieve great things.

 

Dr. Purvis attributes her success in life to her relationship with God and having a very supportive family. Kimberly Purvis is married to Felix and they have two daughters, Kyra and Kamryn.
